Fires bring smoke, damage, no injury
Three fires raged in Tuesday in Franklin County, although two were controlled burns and none caused any injury.
Around 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Apalachicola firefighters responded to a structure fire fully engulfed at 556 Bluff Road. The storage shed that was destroyed is believed to be on property owned by William Watson.
No injuries were reported and the firefighters returned to the fire station around 8:15 a.m.
The other two blazes were both large prescribed burns, and blanketed the county with smoke for several hours.
According to Todd Schroeder, mitigation specialist with the Florida Forest Service, the US Forest Service was conducting a prescribed burn in the Apalachicola National Forest that affected State Road 65.
Also, the Florida Forest Service conducted a prescribed burn in Tate’ Hell State Forest, in fairly close proximity.
