Louis Lamar Roux passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 2, 2020, only 14 days before he was to turn 91.

He was born May 16, 1929 in Tampa to Johnnie and Stephan Roux. After a nomadic early childhood living on boats, Louis moved to Apalachicola with his parents in 1938. With a few travels in between, they again settled for a while and opened Steve Roux’s Fishing Lodge on the Apalachicola River in 1946 where his first adventures as a fishing guide began.

After graduating from Chapman High School in 1948, he joined the US Navy. Upon leaving the Navy in 1952, he returned home to Apalachicola.

Louis held many jobs over the years, including being an electrician and paper mill worker, but he always felt the call to the sea, so he crabbed and shrimped in between.

He married his wife of 62 years, Dolores Taranto Roux, in 1957. Together they ran Coastal Foam & Coastal Building Supply until 1988, when he again answered the call to sea and started a charter fishing business that he continued for over 14 years.

Louis was a member of the Apalachicola Masonic Lodge #76, member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Past-Potentate of Shaddai Shrine Temple, lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and staunch supporter of Second Amendment rights.

Louis was well-known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He loved a good fishing trip, a good fishing story, a good drink, and a good laugh. But, most of all he loved his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Louis Roux, and his beloved dog Sambo.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Roux; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Travis Stanley; and grandsons Drake Stanley and Tate Stanley.

Visitations are welcome Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Delores Sweet Shoppe,, 135 Avenue E. Apalachicola. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May, 9 at 3 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola. Kelley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
