The George E. Weems Memorial Healthcare Foundation donated $6,000 last week to George E. Weems Memorial Hospital to purchase PPE supplies for the hospital, the clinics in Apalachicola and Carrabelle, and EMS.

According to Foundation president John Solomon, the donation is “part of our plan to treat patients during this COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The foundation wants to thank all of our first responders, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to keeping our community healthy and safe,” he said.

The primary purpose of the foundation, formed in 2009, is to provide charitable, medical, scientific, educational and research aid in the form of property and services to the hospital, its subsidiaries, departments, and affiliates.

“We are very grateful to the foundation for its generous donation to assist us with securing PPE supplies to take care of our patients,” said Weems CEO David Walker. “We are always looking to increase our supply chain to be prepared to respond to COVID-19”.

The foundation, a Florida not-for-profit corporation organized under Chapter 617 of the Florida Statutes, is licensed by the state as a charitable organization, designated as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and exempt from federal income tax.

Contributions to the foundation are deductible by donors and/or their estates for federal income, gift, and estate tax purposes. If you are interested in donating to the foundation, please visit the hospital’s website to download the foundation donation form; contact Solomon at 370-6602 or Jody Wilson at 850-567-9653; or mail to 236 Bay City Road, Apalachicola, FL 32320.
