Smith appointed circuit court judge

On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Judge Layne Smith, of Tallahassee, to the Second Circuit Court,

Smith, a Leon County Judge since 2015, previously served as general counsel for the Florida Department of Lottery and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and his law degree from Florida State University College of Law. Smith fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge James Hankinson.
