ECCC shares resources for senior services

Special to the Times

Elder Care Community Council of Franklin County’s mission is to bridge the gaps in services for people over age 55 in our county. If you or someone you know are in need of assistance of any kind, please give us a call at 850-370-0116 so we can help you link with available resources. Here are some resources we would like to share with you:

Elder Care Community Council

The Area Agency on Aging’s Elder Helpline, the number to call for information and referral, is at 1-800-963-5337. This number is who to call if you have questions about services available in our county. Right now, during Medicare Open Enrollment Period, trained SHINE counselors are available through the Elder Helpline to help you navigate your Medicare needs. This will help you see drug prices and compare your current plan to others. SHINE provides free, unbiased health insurance counseling and information for elders and their caregivers.

The Florida Abuse Hotline is 1800-962-2873. The Florida State Ombudsman is Michael Philips and he can be reached at 1-888-831-0404 for questions about rights, safety or welfare of long-term care residents.

If you are walking or riding a bike as part of your physical distancing exercise activities, you can request materials from Florida Department of Transportation by calling 1-833-930-2952.

Legal Services of North Florida is 850-385-9007 and they provide representation to low-income and vulnerable individuals in civil matters. Fall risk prevention is at ncos.org/healthy-aging/falls-prevention/falls-free-checkup.

Make a plan to vote: Saturday, Oct. 31 is the last day to vote early and Tuesday, Nov. 3 is Election Day.

Help us plan ahead to make sure everyone over age 55 has a healthy and connected holiday season. Call us at 850-370-0116 or email ecccfranklin@gmail.org to see how you can get involved. Holy Family Senior Center in Apalachicola remains closed. Lunch is available, Monday through Friday, for drive by pick up only.

Tuesday, Dec. 1, is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving. Never underestimate the power of your generosity in changing someone’s life. We hope you are staying safe and healthy as we move into the fall months. On behalf of ECCC, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support. You make our work possible.
