Both the girls and boys varsity Franklin County basketball squads posted lopsided wins at Wewahitchka Tuesday night.
In the early game, coach Rob Wheetley’s Lady Seahawks upped their record to 2-1 with a 51-21 district win.
The team was led 26 points from freshman Tyasia Yarrell, followed by a dozen points from senior co-captain Hannah Sweet, 10 from senior co-captain Honesti Williams and three from senior Jamela Ray.
The team now goes on a lengthy road trip, with a Friday contest vs. Vernon, on Tuesday at Blountstown, on Thursday, Dec. 12 and Wakulla, on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Arnold and on Thursday, Dec. 19 in the North Bay Haven Christmas Tournament.
They return home Friday, Dec. 20 to face Bozeman.
In the boys game, coach Kameron Ashabranner’s Seahawks decimated Wewa, winning 71-19 after running up a 30-3 halftime score.
The team’s opening game of the season was led by junior Eden Braithwaite who tallied 19 points, one more than sophomore Carter Kembro’s 18.
Sophomore Jerymiah Stephens contributed 11 and senior Ayden Pearson nine.
The boys play at Arnold tonight, and then are home Friday vs. Vernon, and Saturday vs. Leon. The Hawks are then on the road for two straight, at Crossroads Academy Tuesday and at Wakulla Thursday, Dec. 12.
