Hi Y'all,

Happy Birthday to my amazing, beautiful, granddaughter Kayla, who came into my life 15 years ago and I thank God every day. Happy Birthday, Kayla Funderburk.

Oh my gosh, “open it and they will come!” The number of boaters and people at the beaches was overwhelming. I understand Carrabelle Beach was left fairly clean, but I can't say the same for what I heard about Alligator Point Beach. Why would Anybody think that it was okay to trash a beach? Obviously they like to come to enjoy the day, but what if it was just left the way some left it? Not very pretty! Pick up your own trash! Please.

Speaking of trash, apparently some people in Lanark Village think it is okay to throw their unwanted stuff on the side of the road. Nobody else is going to pick up your trash, so take it to the dump. Amnesty Day was this week, you don't have to pay to dump. The sheriff has asked us to call if this occurs. You can call 670-8167, which is the landfill, for more information.

The St. James/Lanark Volunteer Fire Department has had its water turned off because of a dispute over a large water bill in the summer of 2019 when Weems (via the county commissioners) was paying the utilities of the fire Department and Weems ambulances. This will in no way affect their ability to have water available for the fire truck and tanker.

The Lanark Community Church reopened its doors last Sunday. The church was sanitized beforehand and the members wore masks while social distancing. Services start at 11 a.m. each Sunday morning. Please join them in worship.

The Lanark Village Golf Club is having a Yard Sale this Friday through Sunday, May 22 to 24, starting at 8:30 a.m. We will be located on Heffernan Drive, across from Chillas Hall. This sale is to help us maintain the golf course and the front yard of Lanark. Like everybody else we need you support to move forward. We are accepting donations, not clothes, up until the sale. We are unable to pick donations up, but will be happy to accept them. We will be social distancing. Please come.

Lanark will have a Covid 19 testing in the Village on Thursday, May 28. It is located on Heffernan Drive, in the parking lot across from Chillas Hall. The testing will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Anyone over 18 can be tested. You do not have to make an appointment.

If you can't come to the one in Lanark there will be a testing a week Before on Thursday, May 21, at Vrooman Park in Eastpoint. For information please call 653-2177. There also will be a testing later at Alligator Point to be announced.

Don't forget the bears, seriously. Guess who came to Happy Hour last week? It is not the bears' fault. It is the residents' fault for being careless with their garbage. Do what you can to protect these amazing animals and keep yourselves from receiving a $500 fine for feeding the bears.

If you live in Franklin County, please complete your 2020 Census questionnaire. It's the law. Your household's 2020 Census participation will determine federal funding and representation for Franklin County. Your questionnaire is confidential and time sensitive. To complete your 2020 Census, go to 2020census.gov and click “respond with street address.” If you go online, many have said they couldn't get on because they didn't have an asked-for number. Just tab down a little and you will see, “don't have a number, continue.” You can also complete your questionnaire by phone 1-844-330-2020., or for Spanish, 1-844-468-2020. Please help your county and your neighbors; Franklin County needs all the help they can get. I have helped several people respond online with my computer. If you have a neighbor or friend that has not responded, please offer to help. Time is running out! Life could be so much better for Franklin County people, families, businesses, seniors and our most precious - the children.

The issue of the rezoning to commercial of the property on Highway 98 in the Lanark district is in the works. Attorney Thomas M. Shuler is representing the county. You can send letters of your opinion to him at 34-4th Street, Apalachicola, FL 32320. I'm wondering, those who have their expert witness with the developer, how many communities like ours has she assessed as being appropriate to build a commercial business? There are just not that many areas that are as unique as the “Scenic Highway in the Forgotten Coast.” I am sorry, but I have to say, today when I went to Carrabelle Dollar General, which I do like to shop in, I took notice of a huge Dollar General truck delivering. Its engine was running the entire time the truck was unloading and the fumes were almost overwhelming. Pollution!

No news on damage at Chillas Hall, but Tony is working on it. I will keep you informed as anything comes up. Tony says that we are waiting on the adjuster coming out of Tampa.

Please don't be discouraged with Farm Share. If you don't have Facebook and it is important to you, find a friend who can let you know. These people of the American Legion are amazing volunteers and they let us know as soon as they know. In that hot sun, please remember to thank them for their service. They care!

Holy Moley Pizza is still serving. Please call for days and times, 850-396-9607. Free delivery in Lanark Village. Please help support small businesses in this troubling time. It will be great to have them when things get better.

Don't forget the Lanark Mart. They have lots of things that you may need and are right here in our Lanark area. Yay! Also, several of your favorite restaurants in Carrabelle are doing carry out, outdoor seating and limited seating.

The Lanark Boat Club is open for members only. You may be asked for your membership card or proof of membership. If you have lost your card, go to their website lanarkboatclub.com

I know some of you think, why does she repeat herself every week? It is important to understand the Times is being read by many for the first time. We need to let them have a feel for the community, for the issues that we have, and for the fun we have. So, please Bear with me!

Please try to stay strong and kind.

The Lanark Village Golf Course, a non-profit, six-hole course is a fun course to improve your game while enjoying the beautiful bay view and breezes. All day play for a $5 donation. Public Welcome. We are never crowded and we are always open!

Love Lanark!
