A recent online article by Mayor Kevin Begos (See May 14 Medium.com “Apalachicola’s Old Culture of Financial Neglect”) shows what can happen when citizens do not provide oversight of their elected officials. I am convinced certain positive changes to city policies will occur as a result of the Roberson and Associates study.

As a suggestion, I would ask the city to no longer name city property after any living person. Wait until their passing, to allow any negative information to surface that might change the public sentiment, as in this recent revelation about the former mayor. Also, remove that person's name from any public property, if negative information that tarnishes the image of Apalachicola is discovered.
