Hi Y'all, Lanark recovered from our sweet Thanksgiving to looking forward to Christmas. What a joyous time and a hectic time.
As if we don't have enough to do, the Lanark Village Golf Club decided to take advantage of the "Great Sales on Highway 98.” Not having the time or the helpers, we set up at our garage on Heffernan across from Chillas Hall. Our newly upgraded inside with shelves, made it so much easier to set up. We are hoping to have a sale there each month; don't worry I will let you know. We actually did fairly well considering we had just had "The Big One" in November.
The Lanark Boat Club had their annual Christmas Dinner for its members. It is always a fun time and the dinner was catered by KK American Canteen. Karen and her staff did a wonderful job. Thank you to all that pulled this wonderful event together.
Now to decorating. We are going to have some pretty days and you can get out to decorate our sweet Village.
There will be a Lanark Village Golf Club Meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12 at Chillas Hall at 6 p.m. The fire department will be having their meeting the same evening at 7 p.m., held at the firehouse. Please support both groups. It is important to help all groups that are helping you. We really need your help. Turn your heads and eyes away; when you look back life as you know could be gone.
The county planning and zoning board met on Tuesday to look at the plans to build a new Dollar General on Highway 98 near the old Putnal Station. There were many people there who spoke against approving the zoning change to C-4 Commercial. After all was said and done, the board could not determine a recommendation for or against passing the change. More information is needed. The issue will go to the county commissioners this Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. in the Apalachicola courthouse annex. The public hearing, if there is one, will be sometime in January. This is the meeting that you voice your opinion to the commissioners.
I am so looking forward to the Carrabelle Street Festival and Boat Parade of Lights this Saturday, Dec. 14 in Carrabelle. Lots of us get together to watch this beautiful display.
The Lanark Community Church will have a Sunday of singing Christmas carols, nothing like it to get you in the true spirit of Christmas. Join them at 6 p.m. for this inspiring event. Afterwards, stay to enjoy some goodies and good visiting. Please bring a little something to share.
D'Amico's Barber Shop in Carrabelle will be opening on Monday, Dec. 16. I will get the phone number as soon as I can. Good Luck, Angelo!
Don't forget to remind your neighbors about the bears and garbage. People are still leaving their garbage out so bears can get to it.
There are still a couple of spaces for the Walk with Ease program made possible by the Arthritis Foundation and instructed by Belinda Wharton. If you want to join us, send me an email.
Bingo is up and running again on Wednesdays each week at Chillas Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Coffee group in Lanark Village at Chillas Hall from 9 to 11 a.m. weekdays. On Thursday, the county veterans service officer comes between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., and free coffee.
The Lanark Village Golf Course, a non-profit, six-hole course is a fun course to improve your game while enjoying the beautiful bay view and breezes. All day play for a $5 donation. Public Welcome.
