The weekly report on what’s new at Holy Family

Baby it's cold outside!

Winter brings with it the magical enchantment of the holiday season, gathering families around lit fires, television sets and dinner tables, feasting, visiting, celebrating and gifting. Winter also brings with it the cold and chilly temperatures. When the temperature drops, older adults run the risk of health problems and injuries related to the weather.

To keep seniors and homebound residents toasty and snug, the Elder Care Community Council is promoting the “Bee Warm” Blanket and Sock Drive. Join us by bringing new or gently-used freshly laundered blankets, and/or socks, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays to Holy Family Senior Center, and ECCC volunteers will distribute them. We helped seniors stay cool this summer with the Fan Drive, distributing over 60 donated fans to seniors in need. Thank you to everyone that donated a fan! Help us keep everyone warm this winter by contributing to the Blanket and Sock Drive. Portable electric heaters are also welcome!

In other giving news, ECCC is also gearing up for Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3. With the holidays just around the corner, we invite you to kick it off with Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving back. On the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, you'll have the chance to join people around the world and support the ECCC. One-fifth of the population in Franklin County is living below the poverty line according to the U. S. Census Bureau.

Help us give the gift of bridging the gaps for the most needy seniors in our county. By joining the movement, you're providing outreach, education and assistance to people over 55 years of age in Franklin County. Help us raise awareness by making a contribution on Giving Tuesday.

You can donate by credit card at and click on donate; 100 percent of your donation will directly go to helping seniors in Franklin County. ECCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. You will receive a thank-you letter for your donation and feel good knowing that you are giving to help make a difference locally.
