Carlton B. “Butch” Foust

Jan. 16, 1943 – March 17, 2016

Butch and I came to Apalach in 2004 after 30 years of living and working in Europe and South America. We bought an old house to refurbish as our “retirement project.” He embraced the people and culture of Apalach as he did wherever we went.

I’d like to thank Rodney Richards, Jimmy Elliott, Billy and Serita Gay, Dr. Nancy Chorba and Mary Lou Short, “Mom,” for their friendship and help, and all the tradespeople who helped us with the house. He left too soon, we had one room to go. Butch was determined, strong willed, stubborn, profane and a fighter. After two and a half years he finally gave in to a body that was ravaged by cancer and said he was ready to let go, tell his family and friends he loved them and wanted no fuss at his passing.

So remember him as you will, pray for him, and a raise a glass to a good man.
