A fourth death from the coronavirus has been reported in Santa Rosa County, according to the Florida Department of Health’s Sunday evening report. The case was confirmed today but the case was counted by FDOH on April 4, the report said.

The death was an 84-year-old male Florida resident that had contact with the disease but was not travel related, according to FDOH.

Other fatalities in Santa Rosa County include:

– 69-year-old man who had contact with a confirmed case of coronoavirus, but it was not travel related, according to FDOH.

- A 71-year old male who had traveled to Egypt, Jordan and Israel and died March 5 of the disease.

– 81-year-old female who had traveled to Indiana and died March 26.

Santa Rosa County continues to show the highest number of coronavirus patients in the Panhandle (excluding Escambia County, which has 224) with 109.

In addition, four more inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at a Santa Rosa County prison where a total of 40 people have contracted the highly contagious virus, the Florida Department of Corrections said Saturday.

Blackwater River Correctional Facility, which is operated by The Geo Group Inc., now has a total of 34 inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus. Six prison employees also have tested positive for COVID-19, corrections officials said.

In Okaloosa County, eight more cases have been recorded, 7 of which are of people living or working in long-term care facilities. The total number of cases reported from long-term care facilities is now at 21 in Okaloosa County.

Bay County also recorded one more case and numbers decline in the eastern Panhandle.
