Artist Susan Lesley Richardson, of Apalachicola, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning, June 30, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. Her brother John was at her side.

Born in London, Susan moved from England to the United States in 1964 and later became a naturalized and proud American citizen in 1974. She spent several years in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Apalachicola in 1996.

Susan was independent, strong-willed and loved Apalachicola wholeheartedly. She was active in the community and passionate about many good causes over the years. A marvelous chef, she delighted in hosting dinner parties for her friends and relished every gathering. Susan always had an entrepreneurial spirit and counts restaurateur and costume jewelry designer among her many careers before she re-discovered her love and her talent for painting. She leaves behind an incredible legacy of iconic art inspired by the coastal environment she loved so much.

Susan was truly a remarkable person. She will be fiercely missed but will live on in the many memories she created with her friends and family.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Esther Richardson. She is survived by her brother John Richardson, of Vancouver, Canada, his wife Beverly, and their son David and daughter Lisa.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 76 5th Street, Apalachicola, on Sunday, July 21 at 2 p.m., Martha Harris, officiating. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.
