The Ilse Newell Fund for the Performing Arts will host its final spring concert of the 2019 season at Lafayette Park in Apalachicola, from 3 to 6 p.m. this Sunday, May 5.

This free community event will include a variety of artists and musicians in one of the town’s most picturesque settings. People should bring their own chairs or blankets, and are encouraged to bring picnic refreshments to enjoy while listening to the music and strolling the grounds to enjoy en plein air painting and art activities.

Artists from the Apalachicola, St. George Island, and Carrabelle art associations will be painting plein air on site, along with art students from the Franklin County Schools and Apalachicola Bay Charter School. Many of the artists will have finished artworks available for purchase.

Franklin County Art Instructor Lydia Countryman invites community members to get involved in creating individual weavings that will be added to a collaborative art piece her students are producing.

Musical entertainment includes jazz from the Seahawk band under the direction of Jonathan Wilson, gospel and other favorites from the Community Ensemble directed by Barry Hand, guitar music by the Forgotten Coast Conservation Corps, vocal music by soloists Carol Barfield and Frederic Kahler, and religious selections by the Eastpoint Church of God choir.
