Billy Joe “B.J.” Stubbs, 88, went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, April 13, 2019.
He was born Feb. 14, 1931 in Fayetteville, Georgia.
He drove a semi-truck for Georgia Highway / Transus in and around Atlanta, George for 45 years.
B.J. came to Eastpoint 28 years ago, where he met his sweetheart, Ursula Stratton. He was her knight in shining armor, and moved here 26 years ago. Because of Ursula, he became a member of the Eastpointe Volunteer Fire Department, and while not a firefighter, he was a steady help at every fundraiser.
B.J. was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Apalachicola. He loved his church family, firefighter family and Ursula’s family.
He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his sweetheart Ursula Stratton, daughter Cindy Jo Smith (husband Mark Smith); sons Jerry Stubbs (wife Maureen) and Jeffery Lee Stubbs; brother Larry Stubbs (wife Beverly); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all from Georgia.
B.J. was preceded in passing, joining now his parents Lucy and Roy Stubbs, son Timothy Stubbs, brothers Kenneth Stubbs and Lamar Stubbs, and sisters Janice Stubbs and Carol Almand.
The family is thankful for Covenant Care, out of Tallahassee, for the wonderful care they gave B.J. in his finals days.
There will be a Celebration of Life/ Memorial Service on Saturday, May 4, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 46 Ninth Street, in Apalachicola.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions go to Covenant Care, 1921 Capital Circle NW, Tallahassee 32308; or First Baptist Church, 46 Ninth Street, Apalachicola 32320.
