AUBURN – Tuscaloosa County High School’s baseball team defeated Central-Phoenix City 8-6 on Saturday and Opelika 5-3 on Friday in play at the East Alabama Classic.

Layne Lann (1-0) pitched four innings, allowing four hits and one strikeout against Central-Phoenix City. Ethan Swindle pitched three innings and allowed no hits for the save.

John Colby Stapp hit a grand slam home run. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.

Against Opelika, Landen Borden hit 3-for-3 with one RBI. Stapp was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Noah Baggett hit 2-for-3. Grant Hickman (2-2) got the win, pitching six innings and giving up two hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Garrison Estes got the save, pitching one inning with two strikeouts.

Tuscaloosa County (7-9) hits the road again on Tuesday, playing two games in Oxford where it will face Opelika and Boonesville High School out of Mississippi.

Jake Corkren allowed just two hits and struck out five in five innings to get the win.

Luke Stripling, Levi Stroud and Brandon Fenimore each had two hits to lead Northside.

Glenwood Academy 5

On Friday, Tuscaloosa Academy came from behind for the win in its opening game at the

Autauga Academy Wooden Bat Tournament. In relief, Braden Ware (2-0) pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up no hits and no earned runs and struck out five batters to get the win. The Knights were led at the plate by Mayes White, who had two hits and Alex Johnson and Houston Evans who each had a hit. Houston Evans hit a solo home run in the top of the 3rd inning.

Pickens Academy 1,

St. Martin, Miss., 0

Shelby Lowe pitched seven innings, giving up one hit and striking out 14 for the win.

In her turns at bat, Lowe was 1-for-1 with a solo home run and two walks. Jessi Latham and Britney Fitch were hit 1-for-3.

Bay St. Louis, Miss., 0

Mackenzie McCool hit 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI. Jessi Lathan was 2-for-3 with two singles. Winning pitcher was Shelby Lowe who struck out 14 batters and did not give up any hits in seven innings on the mound.

Pickens Academy is 9-4 after wins on Saturday against St. Martin and Bay St. Louis. It plays Patrician Academy on Tuesday starting at 4.

Winning pitcher was Shelby Lowe, who, in five innings struck out 14 and did not give up any hits in the Friday game. Mackenzie McCool was 3-for-3 with two singles, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Lowe hit 2-for-3 with two doubles. Carleigh Cameron went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs.

Hatley, Miss., 0

On Friday, Jessi Latham hit 3-for-3 with three singles and one RBI. Sixth grader Lily Lowery hit 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI. Shelby Lowe was the winning pitcher, throwing seven innings and allowing one hit while striking out 16 batters.
