The Love Center and the Apalachicola United Methodist Church, together with a disaster relief mission out of St. Augustine played Santa Claus for scores of children Saturday morning at the Apalachicola Farmers Market.

Pastor Leonard Martin, of the Love Center's outreach in Panama City, and Pastor Sheila Martin and Robert Davis, from the Apalachicola Love Center, said the Panama City Toys for Tots group provided gifts for the effort, and he was on hand along with the Rev. Themo Patriotis and wife April and daughter Shirah, dressed as an elf, to hand out gifts.

John Holmes and wife Jean Alston arranged for the visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Also taking part was the Rev. Frederic Smith, president of the Servant's Heart Disaster Relief Group, who brought from St. Augustine handmade quilts and stuffed animals, donated by St. Cyprian Episcopal Church and Christ the King Anglican Church.

"Themo and Leonard are two wonderful examples of men committed to God, who have consistently poured themselves out as a libation offering for Apalachicola," said Smith, who estimated that 200 gifts were handed out, including new bicycles, toys for all ages and Care Bags of food offered for anyone in need.
