Franklin County's varsity basketball teams both stayed atop Class 1A District 4 as they traveled to Friday night to Panama City and each down their Bozeman opponent.

In the opener, the Lady Seahawks downed the Lady Bucks 59-27, led by 26 points and 10 rebounds from freshman Amani Jones.

Later, the Seahawks glided past the Bucks 70-39, as three players senior Simon Brathwaite, sophomore Lamarius Martin and sophomore Eden Brathwaite were all in double digits.

Simon Brathwaite led with 17 points and five rebounds, with Martin adding 13 points and eight steals and Eden Brathwaite 10 points. Junior Grady Escobar kicked in eight points.

Coach Nathan West’s squad had 21 assists.

The Seahawks are 3-0 in district play, 6-0 on the season. They face Bay High School at home Monday.

Also undefeated in district play are Coach Tydron Wynn’s Lady Seahawks. “It feels good to go on Christmas break and be undefeated in district play (4-0) for the first in school history,” said Wynn.

Contributing to the victory over Bozeman were sophomore Abigail Johnson, with eight points and two steals; junior Honesti Williams with eight points and four steals; senior Melanie Collins with six points and two steals; and junior Hannah Sweet with five points and five assists.

“When you do the little things good, you the results we get tonight,” said Wynn. “The team is really buying in defensively and it’s showing on the court, with their relentless effort and hustle.”

The Lady Hawks face Bay High School at home Monday.
