Martha (Reese) Kitler, 78, passed peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 in Jacksonville, surrounded by her children.
Martha was born in Apalachicola Dec. 1, 1939 to Joe and Lena Reese.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Lena, her husband Joel, and her youngest son Randall.
She is survived by her sister Louise (Billy) and her sons Greg (Tammie), and Rodney (Laura); her daughter-in-law Holly (Randall) as well as her daughter Karen (Rusty); and several grand and great grandchildren.
Martha’s children have always been amazed by her determination and ability to not only learn something new but master it, from cooking and dressmaking from an early age to maneuvering a computer in the 80s when not everyone owned one.
But the years she spent owning and operating The Gibson Hotel (1972-77) in Apalachicola was a favorite memory of hers that created many crazy funny stories. Of course not as many, or as crazy, as those her children embedded in her memory. She always put her children first and made sure they knew how much she loved them. Her advice was solid and available; be it 3 a.m. or 3 p.m. she always had time to listen.
Her memorial will be held in Jacksonville at Cedar Bay Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m.
