Last year, the freshmen and the juniors played to a tie at the annual Powder Puff game.

The stage was set for a rematch, with each of the teams one year older and one year wiser.

Friday night was the night of the showdown, as the varsity Seahawks had a bye week.

The 20-minute matches opened with the seniors downing the freshmen 18-6, and then the sophomores followed with a 14-6 win over the juniors.

It would be a rematch, with senior quarterback Sophia Kirvin back in action, after an injury last year sidelined her and led to the tie.

Two sisters, sophomore Abby Johnson and senior Alexus Johnson, would be on opposite sides of the field, with their father, school resource officer Brock Johnson, handling the officiating, together with school officials Rob Wheetley and Nathan West.

It would come down to a goal line stand, as the sophomores held on to win 14-12.

The event is a fundraiser for the Denim for Scholars program, which charges those at the school a $3 donation that enables them to wear jeans on Fridays.

The game raised enough money to fund four scholarships, to be awarded to deserving seniors in the spring.
