The seventh annual Bayou BBQ Bash will be held July 13 to July 14 under the U.S. 90 bridge in downtown Morgan City.
The event will kick off on Thursday night from 5:30-8 p.m. with a "Business After Hours" meet and greet at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 6365 La. 182 East, Morgan City. People will be able to meet the cooks and sample some of their food before the bash starts.
The bash is paid for by participants and vendors such as East Gate BBQ, the Smokehouse, among others, that register to participate. St. Mary Parish also provides some money to help make the bash possible.
Donna Meyer, president of the Chamber of Commerce of St. Mary Parish, said the bash "promotes economic development and helps bring people from all over the state to get together for a few days."
The band Ruff N Ready will be performing on Friday while Deja Vu will be performing on Saturday.
The arts and crafts booths will be open from 4-10 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
People will be able to purchase food, drinks and beer on Friday from 4-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The cost to compete is $165 for competitive and local teams and $250 for corporate teams.
This year, there will be a kids' barbecue competition where kids ages 13-17 will be cooking chicken legs and kids 12 and under will be cooking pork chops. The entry fee for this competition is $30.
As of last week, there were 45-50 teams registered to participate at the event.
An awards ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday. The winner will get an 10-karat gold ring designed by Len Klutts and donated by Klutts Jewelers.
In a news release, Meyer said that while the championship trophy travels each year, "the addition of the championship ring will make the event more personal for this year's winner."
