The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the apparent drowning victim whose body was recovered off Dog Island Sunday afternoon.

Patrick Lambert Salmon, 54, of Tallahassee, has been identified. Rob Klepper, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said Salmon's body was recovered at about 4:39 p.m.

The sheriff’s office, the lead investigative agency for this case, withheld the name of the victim until next of kin were notified.

According to law enforcement officials, Salmon was in the water with his fiancé, while their sailboat was near the shore. They believe he may have drowned while trying to free the boat from being lodged in the sand. Sheriff A.J. Smith said Salmon's body was transported to Tallahasee, for an autopsy by the medical examiner's office.

Following the report of a person in distress, multiple watercraft from FWC, the Coast Guard, the sheriff's office and several private boaters were on scene to find the victim.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office asks for prayers for the family and friends of the victim.
