Volume Two of Jimmie Nichols’ classic “Apalachicola Diary” is now available, and Downtown Books is hosting a special party to celebrate.
Cathy Williams, daughter of the late Jimmie and Olga Nichols, will be at Downtown Books to sign copies this Saturday, May 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. Local journalist Kevin Begos, who knew Jimmie Nichols, will also attend.
Jimmie Nichols loved Apalachicola and he wrote about local history with humor and passion. Volume Two of Apalachicola Dairy features stories that first appeared in the Apalachicola Times on the 1929 hurricane, oysters, the Gibson Inn, oranges, Dr. Alvin Chapman, the Empire Mica rescue, Trinity Church, Hemingway's visit to Apalachicola, John Ruge, Dr. John Gorrie, Greek and Sicilian winemakers, the first Florida Seafood Festivals, sponges, the lumber industry, St. Vincent Island and many other topics.
Volume One of Apalachicola Diary, first published in 2012, is also available at Downtown Books, 67 Commerce Street, Apalachicola.
