A 35-year-old Apalachicola man has been charged with a pair of felonies in connection with a a Friday afternoon, May 5 gunfight in the city..

Lataska “Bo” Harris, 35, turned himself in May 11 to face charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon. He is being held without bond.

Sheriff A.J. Smith said Harris is believed to have engaged in a gunfight with Austin Phillip O’Neal, 24, who fled the scene following the early afternoon shooting at 139 Martin Luther King Boulevard,.

O'Neal urned himself in to the county jail early the next morning, and is being held without bond on two counts of attempted murder.

Smith said Harris suffered a gunshot wound to the hip, and was treated at Sacred Heart and later Bay Medical.

Two other men each were wounded in the fight, and later released from area hospitals. Phillip Barry O’Neal, 47, father of Austin O’Neal, suffered gunshot wounds to the hip, and Merchant Everitt Bunyon, 41, a gunshot wound to the back. Neither is facing charges in the incident.
