My name is Carlton “Carl” Whaley and I am a resident of Carrabelle. I attended Franklin County schools and graduated from Carrabelle High School in 1986. I currently reside in Carrabelle with my family. My wife, Dana Duncan Whaley, is from Apalachicola and graduated from Apalachicola High School in 1987. She is currently employed in Franklin County as a family nurse practitioner. My son, Duncan Whaley, is 15 years old and attends school at Franklin County High School. We are members of the First Baptist Church of Carrabelle and I am a member of Curfew Lodge #73 F. & A.M.

I presently serve Franklin County as a deputy sheriff and the fire chief of the Carrabelle Volunteer Fire Department. Over the past years, I have volunteered with various school and community organizations such as the School Advisory Committee, Parent Teacher Organization, Florida Seafood Festival Board of Directors, Carrabelle Dixie Youth League, Seahawk Booster Inc., Community Traffic Safety Teams and I have taught local hunter safety classes for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. I also served the 2008-12 term on the Franklin County School Board for District 5.

During my previous term on the board, I was instrumental in the construction of the multi-purpose building, and the bayside environmental platform, and having much needed lighting installed around the campus. I was, and continue to be, present on campus for support of our students, both for academic and sporting events.

As we move into the future, I pledge to work as a team member on behalf of our students, teachers and community. I have the ability and experience to serve our community as a member of the Franklin County School Board. I believe that cohesiveness and a working relationship are high priorities for overcoming challenges we face. All persons involved with our schools: board members, district personnel, staff members, teachers, students and the community play an important role in accomplishing educational gains. Effective communication is essential to establish and maintain trust and to ensure the successful education of our children and I will pledge to keep you informed.

The ultimate goal for me again is to provide a quality education to all of our children in a safe and clean environment. The future of our children begins with education and I would like to again be part of the team that oversees the educational process of this district. I believe that my having a child that attends school within the district gives me great insight into the needs of our schools. It would be an honor to serve this community to help ensure the success of the next generation of leaders.

I will come to this job open minded and with the objectivity necessary to perform all of the functions of a school board member. Feel free to contact me at 697-8639, with questions, concerns and support. I am willing and able to devote the time and energy that our children so greatly deserve by fulfilling my duties as a member of this board.

Go Seahawks.
