A new business has just opened on St. George Island, the latest branch office of the real estate company Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Beach Properties of Florida.

With offices in Walton and Bay counties, the addition of the St. George Island branch makes for a Panhandle-wide collection of real estate offices operating for the express purpose of handling buyers and sellers of higher end properties along the coastal communities of Northwest Florida.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices purchased the Prudential Real Estate franchise in 2012, and Prudential real estate offices have been gradually changing to the new brand over the last four years. The local Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices franchise was awarded to the Walton County-based Beach Properties of Florida in Jan. 2016, and the St. George Island branch office opened March 1, with realtors Susan Bassett, Shelley Shepard and Jerry Thompson, with Helen Spohrer and Grayson Shepard coming on board shortly thereafter.

“We are delighted to have opened our new branch office in this unique coastal community,” said Hunter Harman, one of the owners of Beach Properties of Florida and the broker for the company. “We see St. George Island, Apalachicola and surrounding areas an excellent addition to the broad community we serve all along our beautiful coast.”

Susan Bassett of the Thompson Shepard Bassett Team of realtors said, “We are so pleased to have our team be part of a solid company with great ties to our neighboring coastal communities. The interactions with the larger community gives our real estate market greater exposure and brings attention to what makes us special.”

Helen Spohrer, who founded Prudential Resort Realty on St. George Island over 30 years ago, said, “I’m thrilled to see Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices on the island and to be part of this natural progression of the business I started so many years ago.“

The company is strictly focused on sales of property, not rentals. The office is located at 140 West 1st Street on St. George Island.
