Val Wallace, native Bolivian and resident of Walton County, will open The Language Studio this January in Miramar Beach.
This program focuses on a natural approach to teach Spanish to children through hands-on play and exploration. At The Language Studio, Spanish native speakers will help children build vocabulary, acquire the correct use of phonetics, and engage children in a multi-sensory process.
"Because of my insatiable need for cultural identification, vision of cultural immersion and bilingualism, and encouragement from family and friends to bring this to our community, I made the decision to develop this Spanish education program," Wallace said.
There will be four classes with a maximum of five children per class. There will be a 3-4 year old class and a 5-6 year old class, each available on either Tuesday or Thursday for 45 minute sessions.
Languages are best learned as toddlers. Starting young offers the widest benefits because children have greater room to grow into both their first and second language. Learning a language during childhood, as opposed to adulthood, is significantly easier because as adults, the neural pathways of our brains are hard-wired.
Learning a new language is an exciting and rewarding experience at any age and provides many cultural opportunities. Economic advantage is available for those who are bilingual in many work fields in our global, interconnected world.
