Jimmy James was born Feb. 27, 1922 and rose to be with the Lord on Dec. 30, 2012 at home with his family.

He was born in Apalachicola to the late Imanuel and Annie James. He moved from Apalachicola in 1951 to Port St. Joe where he lived the remainder of his life. He retired in 1985 from Basic Chemical Company as an electrician.

After his retirement he moved on to one of the loves of his life, shrimping and his bait business where he became known to many as J.J. or Captain J.J.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Iris Lovett James; and his two grandsons, Brandon James Brogdon and Benjamin Ferrell Whitfield Jr.

He leaves behind to celebrate life and to mourn his passing, three daughters, Dianne Brogdon, Margo Marion (Raymond) and Vickie Whitehead; his grandchildren, Traci Marion, Bryan Brogdon, Brandi Brogdon, Nikki Whitfield and Michael Marion; his great-grandchildren, Bubba Brogdon, Baily Brogdon and Brandon Brogdon; and two sisters, Elaine Fitzgerald of Georgetown, SC, and Ann Estes of Crawfordville.

Jimmy was a much-loved man who touched the lives of many and became known to a great many people during his lifetime. He will be missed by many.

Following Jimmy's wishes, memorialization will be by cremation. Services provided by Comforter Funeral Home.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at 3 p.m. ET at Oak Grove Church in Port St. Joe.
