Franklin County’s Hispanic community helped observe the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12, by carrying an icon of the Virgin Mary down Avenue B to St. Patrick Catholic Church. After worshippers walked on their knees, bearing the icon to the altar, a Mass was celebrated, recalling the vision in 1531 by the Mexican peasant Juan Diego, who saw on the slopes of the Hill of Tepeyac a vision of a girl of 15, surrounded by light. Speaking to him in Nahuatl, the local language, she asked that a church be built at that site, in her honor. Following the Mass, a potluck feast was enjoyed in the fellowship hall.
