Nell Jacobs Lunsford, 78, formerly of Franklin County, died on Tuesday, May 6, in Tallahassee, 10 months and two days after the passing of her beloved husband Billy.



She is survived by her daughter Denise, Tallahassee, and her sons Michael, Spokane, Washington, and Greg (Traci) of Rock Hill, South Carolina. She is also survived by her brothers Cliff (Helen), Orlando, and Johnnie (Delois) Milton; seven grandchildren, Billy Lee (Shayla), Kellie (Jesse), Germaine (Jacob), Morgan (Corey), Savannah, Jacob, and Emily; and four great-grandchildren, Adaline, Elijah, Waylon, and Mason.



Mrs. Lunsford was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Billy G. Lunsford, her parents Ewell and Susie Thomley Jacobs, brothers Hub and Donnie; and her sister Clovette Jacobs Craft.



Nell was born on Oct. 13, 1935, in Newton, Alabama. As a young child she and her family moved to Allentown, where she met her future husband Billy.



After moving to Apalachicola in 1964, Mrs. Lunsford was employed by Lanier Pharmacy and Nichols’ Drive-In Movie Theater before accepting a position in the Franklin County Tax Collector’s Office, where she worked as deputy tax collector for over 20 years. 



She was a member of the Church of Christ on Margaret Street in Milton. She was also a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, American Legion Branch, Apalachicola.



Nell enjoyed music, especially the old country standards and bluegrass music. For several years she and her husband owned a home in Rosine, Kentucky, where they enjoyed attending and volunteering at the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Festival. The Lunsfords forged many close friendships during their time in Rosine and leave behind Cindy Robinson and Kathy Sanderfur, who bought and now live in the Lunsford’s “Old Kentucky Home.”



Nell also loved to cook, work crossword puzzles, go fishing on Doyle Creek, and work in her vegetable garden.



Visitation will be held at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 North Monroe St., Tallahassee, on Friday, May 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at Bevis Funeral Home on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Sumatra Cemetery immediately following the service. Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.



A reception will follow the interment at 4 p.m. at the Country Inn & Suites, 3096 North Monroe St., Tallahassee. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
