Carrabelle taps two for EDC

On Dec. 5, Carrabelle commissioners voted unanimously to add two at-large seats to Carrabelle’s Economic Development Council (EDC), acting on a request from EDC Director David Butler.

On Jan. 9, the city commissioners unanimously approved Linda Cowan and Gene Snider as the newest members, expanding the board to nine Butler said Cowan and Snider were the only two applicants for the seats.

Carrabelle updates CRA plans

Carrabelle is revising and updating plans for its Community Redevelopment Area (CRA).

Commissioner Charlotte Schneider said the plans have fallen by the wayside in recent years and the city is now seeking state funds to improve Marine Street.

At their Jan. 9 meeting, city commissioners voted unanimously to add two new CRA members, downtown merchant Bo May and Robert Powist, a resident of Riverside Condominiums.

Meetings of the CRA committee will be the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Carrabelle Municipal Center.

Carrabelle museum seeks volunteer help

The Carrabelle History Museum is in need of volunteers to host the open hours of the museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and especially on Saturday. Two or three hour shifts work well.

The museum also is building its files on local families and local places, and needs people to gather and organize what it has on specific topics.

The museum also is asking members to renew their membership or join the Carrabelle Historical Society. Annual membership dues for the society are $15 individuals and $25 for families.

The next changing exhibit will be about salt, so the museum is looking for artifacts and a salt kettle to borrow.

Please stop by and see all of the new changes and improved displays. The Holiday Bears will be on display for another week.

The museum is at 106 Avenue B, SE, in the heart of downtown Carrabelle. For more information, call 697-2141 or 524-1153.
