More than 350 people attended the annual St. George Island New Year’s Bonfire on the Beach. The party has been a tradition on the island for more than 30 years.

Disc jockey Wayne Thomas spun some licorice pizza for the entertainment of visitors and islanders alike, thanks to a $500 grant from the Franklin County Tourist Development Council. The fire helped chase the chills away as youngsters and oldsters celebrated the end of 2013 and welcomed a brand new year.

Mason Bean, president of the St. George Island Civic Club, which sponsored the bonfire, said the weather was clear and perfect with a 15 mph wind from the east. - By LOIS SWOBODA
