Law enforcement officials with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office believe that human skeletal remains discovered Monday in a wooded area near Lake Morality in Carrabelle may be those of Cody Diorio, who went missing in the area April 2.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the clothing items and footwear found near the remains were consistent with those last seen on Diorio.

Early Tuesday morning, Franklin County detectives, agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Lab and officers with the Florida Department of Corrections collected the skeletal remains and other items from the area.

The remains were taken to the Leon County medical examiner's office, where they hope to make an identification through DNA and dental records.

Based on the evidence found at the scene, a preliminary investigation does not suggest foul play, according to the news release.

Diorio, 22, of Carrabelle, went missing near Duck Lake on April 2 and his green 1996 Dodge Ram was located, but a search was unable to find any trace of him, detectives said.
