Hat’s off to David, Lois, and our great weekly newspaper. As you know, they did quite well in Orlando. Keep up the good work!
Next Saturday, Aug. 10, mark your calendar and plan to join us at Camp Gordon Johnston American Legion Post 82 for Thanksgiving in August. We will enjoy roast turkey and all the trimmings. Your donation of $9 will fill a plate for you. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. Hope to see you there.
Of course, we still have hamburgers and chips on Friday nights 5 to 7 p.m. at Camp Gordon Johnston American Legion Post 82. A donation of $6 is required. Yum yum!
Sunday night is still pizza night at the Legion. Orders taken after 5 p.m. Pizza by the slice is $1 donation. Whole pizza eat-in is $8 donation, and pizza on wheels requires a $10 donation. Enjoy!
Saturday, Aug. 17, your monthly sugar fix will be ready at the Lanark Village Boat Club. You can enjoy a full breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. You may choose pancakes or French toast, my favorite, along with bacon, eggs juice and coffee. All that for a $5 donation only.
Later on Saturday night, you are welcome to the August Birthday Bash at the Legion. Enjoy the music with the Songbird and others at the karaoke. Party hearty!
After church Sunday, Aug. 18, you can join your friends and neighbors at Chillas Hall, and enjoy our monthly covered dish luncheon. Be sure to bring a dish to share and your empty stomach. Chow line forms at 1 p.m. Be watchin’ for ya!
If you can, please drop some school supplies in the boxes for those who cannot afford them.
You high rollers will have to be more careful. The school buses will be on the byways and highways. They will be picking up and delivering precious cargo.
My longtime friend Winnie Rickards called to ask about Farm Share and utility assistance for some needy oystermen and their families. The Farm Share truck is at Camp Gordon Johnston American Legion Post 82 on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m., and Thursdays 9 a.m. to noon, if there are veggies left. On Thursdays, noon to 2 p.m., food items can be picked up at the Carrabelle United Methodist Church. On Saturdays, food and veggies can be picked up at the First Baptist Church of Eastpoint, 447 Avenue A.
Be kind to one another, check in on the sick and the housebound and remember the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Until next time, God bless America, our troops, and the poor, homeless and hungry.
