Kingfish Shootout Aug. 2-3

The 10th Annual Kingfish Shootout will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4 at C-Quarters Marina, 501 Highway 98. The Captain's Meeting is at 6 p.m. Registration is $250 per boat. Online registration is available at the website

The shootout will be for kingfish only. The guaranteed payout will be $16,500 with 10 places. You can win $5,000 for the biggest kingfish. Proceeds benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Oyster, wildflower talks Thursdays

The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) will host two educational talks in August at their visitor center at 108 Island Drive in Eastpoint. On Thursday, Aug. 1, come learn about oysters and the reefs they call home. On Thursday, Aug. 8, ANERR will host a wildflower lecture, slideshow and nature walk. Both talks are scheduled for 3 p.m.

St. George Island Sizzler coming up

On Saturday, Aug. 10, the 16th annual St. George Island Sizzler 5K Race and One Mile Fun Run will take place on St. George Island. On-site registration at Lighthouse Park begins at 3 p.m. The one-mile fun run begins at 5:30 p.m. and the 5K begins at 6 p.m. Post-race party, including fresh local seafood, and awards at Lighthouse Park at 6:30 p.m.

Pre-registration deadline is Aug. 8. Online registration is available. Cost is $25, includes shirt, race packet, one post-race party ticket; for $20, you can go with the no-shirt option includes race packet, post race party ticket; and $10 is the student rate for school cross country teams includes race, post-race party ticket. Tickets to the post-race party are available for $15.
