Lady Seahawks Trounce Taylor, Jefferson

The Lady Seahawk volleyball team finished big last week with victories over both Taylor and Jefferson counties.

Senior Alana Hutchins led the way at Taylor Sept. 15 with nine serving points, followed by senior Khrystal Davis and Chelsea Soderholm with seven. The Seahawks had control during the entire game.

"We have eight seniors on the team this year and they definitely left their mark on Taylor," said Christy Thompson, assistant coach. Teka Croom led the team with nine kills, Angie Ochala seven, Gracie O'Neal six, Hutchins five, and Davis three.

Junior Joy Carrino had seven assists during the game and served one ace. The Seahawks put this one away easily with scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16.

The J.V. girls also took out Taylor, 25-18 and 25-16, with impressive serving from Morgan Newell, Carli Klink, and Harley Tucker. Brooke Harper recorded a pair of kills and Tucker had one as well.

Jefferson County came to visit the Seahawks Sept. 16 and left losing straight sets against both the J.V. and varsity teams.

Davis led the varsity in serving points with 10, followed by Hutchins and sophomore Desirea Cummings both with eight. O'Neal and junior Mone't Moron played extremely well for the Seahawks against Jefferson. Moron recorded three kills, two digs, two aces and a block during the game. O'Neal had four kills, three digs, four aces, and six assists. "The girls earned most of our points by serving," said Thompson. "Jefferson was unsuccessful in returning the serving power tossed out by the Seahawks."

Closing scores for varsity were 25-12, 25-17, and 25-13.

The J.V. team came out serving big against Jefferson with freshmen Oneika Lockley leading with seven, Tiffany Varnes five, and Harley Tucker three. Lockley also had two kills, three aces, and one assist. Game scores were 25-19 and 26-24.

"The Lady Seahawks had a victorious week and hopefully it will spill over into the next week against Munroe and district rival North Florida Christian," said Thompson.
