Middle School Baseball Team Wraps Up Season

The Franklin County Middle School baseball team had many leaders in many different ways.

We had vocal leaders, leaders by actions, and we had our inspirational leaders. The future of the Franklin County Baseball team looks very bright and the student-athletes themselves look even brighter."

Members of the middle school baseball team included eighth graders Marquez Williams, Chance Buffkin, Austin Larkin, Colton Sheridan and Matthew "Bubba" Brannon; seventh graders Cole Lee, Brennan Walden, Skyler Hutchinson, Brandon Barnes, Casey Sapp, Jeffery Murray, Rasha Cummings and Chase Golden; and sixth graders Cameron White and Leonard Green.

The season started off well with a close ball game at Wewahitchka. We lost by one run in extra innings.

Then we played Apalachicola Bay Charter School at their place and beat them in the rain. Traveling to Maclay was a new experience for us with a big baseball environment. We won the game in an extremely cold game that got called due to darkness.

This start was then slowed with some rainy weather that had a few games get canceled or rescheduled. Hosford and Port St. Joe were the two games that were affected most. Two doubleheaders were played because of the weather and we lost both games to both teams. We just struggled getting into a groove.

Riversprings was a team that in the first game beat up on us pretty good, but we came out in the second game against them and battled, until the game was called when the lights at the field blew and the game was forfeited.

We got the rest of our wins in a good way. We finished the season with a forfeit by Maclay due to transportation issues. We played ABC School a second time at their place and won in a hard-fought battle between two solid teams.

Our season finished on an upswing when Wewahitchka came to play at our place. We played solid the entire game and we were winning big when the game was called due to time limit and darkness.

The boys worked very hard throughout the year and if we would have had more time to prepare for some of our tougher games, we could have been more prepared and changed the outcomes of all of our loses.
