Liberty County squeaks past Franklin County
BRISTOL - Franklin County scored first and threatened to regain the lead in the third quarter, but Liberty County pulled away to improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in District 1-1A with a 23-7 win over Franklin County Friday night.
Jared Mock, who had a team-leading 69 yards rushing, scored on a 1-yarder in the second quarter, and Bobby Garrett's extra point kick gave the Seahawks (0-4, 0-2) a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.
Steadman Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a score and quarterback Terrence Evans recorded a 2-point conversion run for an 8-7 Liberty County lead.
Franklin County drove inside the Liberty County 35, but Mock fumbled the ball away late in the third quarter.
Kevin McCray, who had 87 yards rushing on nine carries, scored a few minutes later and Evans, who added 62 yards, capped the scoring with a 30-yard run.
Franklin County hosts Freeport Friday in the first game in the Seahawks' new stadium.
