PASCO, Wash. — Eugene scored five runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Tri-City 9-1 Monday night in the series finale.

The Emeralds finished the first half of the schedule with the worst record in the Northwest League at 14-24 as they return home to host Salem-Keizer on Tuesday to kick off the second half.

Luis Vazquez led off the game with a double and went to third on a single by Tyler Durna. Jonathan Sierra followed with a double that scored Vazquez.

Luke Reynolds hit a two-run double and scored on a double by Grant Fennell. Luis Diaz singled in Fennell to cap the inning.

Eugene starter Derek Casey pitched two hitless innings before reliever Eury Ramos (1-1) allowed one run in four innings to earn the victory on the mound.

Tr-City starter Adrian Martinez (1-3) lasted just a third of an inning, giving up five runs on seven hits.

The Dust Devils (18-20) scored in the fourth inning when Grant Little walked and Olivier Basabe singled before they pulled off a double steal. Little scored on a wild pitch.

Reynolds walked in the fifth inning and went to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Gustavo Polanco.

Eugene added two runs in the seventh after Nelson Velazquez walked and Reynolds was hit by a pitch. Diaz, who was 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and four RBIs, followed with a two-run double.

The Emeralds, which rapped 13 hits in the game and held Tri-City to five, capped their scoring with a run in the ninth inning when Reynolds scored on a groundout by Diaz. Reynolds finished 2-for-3 with a double, knocked home a pair of runs and scored four times.

Eugene won the five-game series, 3-2.
