BANKS — Scotty Kennon of Bandon shot 7-under-par 65 to create a clear gap in the individual competition after the first day of the Class 3A/2A/1A state boys golf tournament at Quail Valley Golf Course.

Kennon’s big day, along with top-10 performances by Jackson Kennon and Casey Peters, helped land Bandon in first place in the team competition at 308, 12 shots ahead of second-place Oregon Episcopal. Jackson Kennon shot 5-over 77 and is in sixth place, and Peters was at 6-over-par 78 for seventh place.

Kyle Humphreys of Regis is in second place overall at 3-under 69, and Riley Lankford is third at 71.

Also Monday

Class 4A boys golf: Klamath Union's Craig Ronne leads the individual competition after the first round at 4-under 68, followed by Carter Lee of Tillamook at 72 at Eagle Crest Ridge Course in Redmond. Valley Catholic leads the team race with 317, and Scappoose is second at 325. Marshfield is ninth with 358, and Sweet Home is in 11th place with 380.

Girls Golf

Class 6A: Jesuit's Tabetha King and Tigard's Victoria Gailey lead the pack at 2-under-par 70 after the first round at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis. Tannica Porter of Willamette is in fourth place at even-par 72. Jesuit leads the team race at 303, and Westview is second with 306. Sheldon is in 11th at 368.

Class 5A: Summit's Olivia Loberg shot a 3-under 69 to lead by five shots at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis. Teammate Sophie Dalfonsi is tied for second with Shayla Berrey of Crescent Valley at 74. Bend leads the team competition at 342, followed by Summit at 360.

Class 4A/3A/2A/1A: St. Mary’s shot a 323 to grab the lead in the team race at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks. Baylee Hammericksen shot a 2-under-par 70 for the Crusaders to lead the medalist race. Sweet Home's Haley May shot an 89 and is tied for 14th place with Sisters' Emma Farley. Waldport’s is 11th in the team race at 437.

Junction City 8, Elmira 3: Abby Bumcrot was 3-for-4 with three runs and a double for the Tigers (24-1), and Lilly Bauer hit a three-run home run. Josie Dickson was 2-for-4 for the Falcons (20-6).

Marist 11, La Salle 0: The Spartans (22-3, 17-1) defeated the Falcons (14-10, 12-5) on the road.

North Bend (JV) 18, Bandon 8: The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers (1-14) on the road.

Special District 3

Oakland 8, North Douglas 7: Andie Bean tossed a complete game, allowed nine hits and seven runs for the Oakers (17-5, 14-2) and striking out seven. The Warriors (17-7, 12-4) scored six runs in the seventh inning, but their comeback fell short.

Monroe 17, Lowell 2, 5 inn.: Tyler Warden pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the Dragons to the victory over the Red Devils. Warden also went 2-for-3 with a home run for Monroe (16-4, 15-1 SD3). Madyson Meza went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs and Callie Horning went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Dragons.

Special District 3

Oakland 3, North Douglas 2: JP Redfield was 3-for-4 for the Oakers (15-9, 13-3) with two RBIs, and Dylan Bainbridge was 2-for-4. Kyle Bowen and Caleb Parks each went 2-for-3 for the Warriors (12-12, 9-7).

Monroe 16, Lowell 6: The Dragons (17-6, 14-2) defeated the Red Devils (3-17, 3-13) at home.

Oakridge 11, Elkton 0, 5 inn.: The Warriors (13-8, 10-6) defeated the Elks (10-10, 8-8) at home.

Nonleague

Horizon Christian 13, Pleasant Hill 3, 6 inn.: Luke Klein was 3-for-4 with a bases-loaded double and tallied four RBIs for the Hawks (15-7, 7-5). George Putnam was 2-for-3 for the Billies (13-7, 10-2). Pleasant Hill will play Harrisburg in the first round of the league playoffs on Wednesday.

Sweet Home 7, South Albany 5, 8 inn.: The Huskies (15-8) defeated the Rebels (2-22) on the road.
