The annual Philaco art show was short on entries this year but long on talent.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Cathy Bailey, walked away with the blue ribbon for a wedding ring pillow embroidered and ornamented with satin ribbon.

Bailey’s entry will be headed to Chattahoochee for the Florida Federation of Women’ Clubs District Arts and Crafts show on Saturday, Feb. 15.

She said the ring pillow is designed to be converted to a crib pillow for after the wedding. Bailey also entered a Christmas stocking and ornament, both with hand-smocked decorations.

Lynn Spohrer’s stunning landscape depicting a section of coastline on Cape San Blas also took a second-place red ribbon. The colors were understated and very true to Florida ’s natural palette.

Barbara Paget took a red ribbon too, for her pine needle basket decorated with shells. Paget also provided hand-crafted baskets to decorate the tables for the monthly luncheon.

Judges for this year’s art and craft show were interior designer Cari Vike and Kelly Boxberger, owner of the Funky Fiddler in Apalachicola .
