Martha Pearl Miller Ward, 80, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 in Covenant Hospice at Bay Medical Center.

She was born in Millville on July 7, 1936 to Mack and Voncile Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Olan “Buddy” Ward, her oldest son Olan (Diane), and her brothers Lloyd, Abraham, and Darell.

Survivors include her sons, Walter Mack “Dakie” (Rachel), George Weems, Thomas Lee (Patty), and Joseph Myron. Grandchildren include Olan Neil, Joel Adelbert, Martha Eugenia, Melanie Lynn, Walter Mack, Jr., Shaun, George Weems, Abrianna, Leonard, Kevin Randell, Thomas Lee, Jr., Sara Elizabeth, Joseph Corey and Josalyn Grace.

She also had 17 great-grandchildren, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Martha Pearl raised five boys, opened her home to numerous other children and families in the community where She was known by many as Granny and Aunt Martha Pearl. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she taught many church classes and was involved in The Relief Society. She considered her church family as an extension to her own family.

Visitation will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. and funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. with graveside service following.

Services under the direction of Southerland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Covenant Hospice or to the Apalachicola branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
