ABC Eighth Graders Tour Atlanta
The eighth grade students of ABC School have just returned from a wonderful trip to Atlanta. Most of these students had never visited the city and enjoyed the learning opportunities that the city provided.
The trip began with a tour of the World of Coca-Cola where students learned the history and development of Coca-Cola and its products. Next, students entered the world of animals as they toured the new Georgia Aquarium, the world's largest and most engaging aquarium. Students were able to visit and view animals that live in arctic areas, rivers, tropical, and marine habitats as well. For dinner, the students ate at the famous Hard Rock Café in downtown Atlanta. The night ended at a Braves game with Atlanta beating Cincinnati 2 to 1.
On Saturday, students began their morning touring the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center. The history of the Civil Rights movement and desegregation was discussed and explored. Students were able to visit the tomb of Dr. King and his wife, Coretta Scott King.
After a quick lunch, students were off to CNN. Students toured the first Cable News Network and witnessed how the news is gathered and produced for live television. At the end of the tour, they received the autograph of Atlanta Braves starting catcher, Brayan Pena.
Next, the eighth graders were off to the Atlanta Zoo taking in the sights and sounds of many different types of animals. The young new panda and the gorillas with their infants were some of the highlights of the zoo.
Leaving the zoo, the group moved on to Georgia's Stone Mountain, a granite intrusion formed 350 million years ago. Students rode the skylift to the mountain top and were able to view Atlanta from a skyhigh perspective. After dinner, the students spread out on the lawn in front of the massive carving on the face of Stone Mountain to take in the 25th Anniversary Laser Light Show. The laser light show displayed laser lights, graphics, characters and fireworks synchronized to spectacular music. The grand fireworks finale made the evening complete.
The eighth grade worked diligently this year to raise money for this wonderful trip. The ABC School and eighth grade class would like to thank the many businesses and organizations that helped provide funding to make this educational trip possible. This trip was an excellent way to end their journey as ABC Eagles and prepare to enter their high school years.
