Habitat winner at Battle at the Bay tourney

It was a chilly weekend for play at St. James Bay Golf Resort on Oct. 27 and 28 when golfers with a broad spectrum of experience teed off for the 2012 Battle at the Bay, a benefit for the Franklin County Habitat for Humanity.

The tourney is a two-player team event, with formats for all levels of golfers. Two-person teams with a team handicap of 14 or less played a Shamble format, and teams with 15 handicap or above played a Scramble, select shot, format. In the Scramble format, both players tee off, then select the best tee shot and play their own ball to finish the hole from there and record the best score of the two.

David Hoover’s 62 and Will Grubbs’ 68 enabled them to finish first in the Big Dogs category with a combined score of 130. In second place Spencer Smith and Kamaiu Johnson each scored 66 for a total of 132.

In the Players Flight, Bill Zimmer and Ray Merrill each scored 69 for a first place combined score of 138 nosing out Stacy Kirvin (68) and John Carpenter (71) who brought home a combined score of 139.

In the Tee It High Flight Mitch Stephens and Bill Sibley each scored 70 for a combined score of 140. Larry Tromly (70) and Walt Dodson (72) brought in a combined score of 142 to place second.

First in the Let It Fly Flight went to Doug Brock (68) and Tom Nobles (70) for a combined 138. Derrick and Tom Bolton (71 and 73) place second in the flight with a combined score of 144.
