Carrabelle Woman Killed in Crash

The Franklin County community is grieving the tragic traffic death last weekend of Debra Smith, sister to Sheriff Mike Mock, who died in a one-car crash early Sunday morning.

Debra Smith, 46, of Carrabelle, was westbound on Lake Morality Road, about 1.6 miles west of U.S. 98, when her 2001 Ford veered on to the north shoulder of the road and struck a tree.

Jesse Parker Smith, Smith's 3-year-old son, was secured in the vehicle and was not injured.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Charles Cook's investigation indicated Smith was not wearing her seatbelt.

The FHP report indicates the crash occurred at about 11 p.m. Saturday. FHP received a call on it at 7:55 a.m. Sunday and dispatched a trooper.

Smith was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
