Buses get stuffed with school supplies

The school district’s first-ever “Stuff the Bus” school supply donation drive proved a big success earlier this month, as buses parked in Apalachicola, Eastpoint and Carrabelle became drop-off sites for a wealth of supplies for Franklin County and Apalachicola Bay charter school students whose families need the help. School board member Pam Shiver, second from left, said the drive also received $500 in cash donations. “We had a positive turnout by the community, and we are very appreciative of the support for the success of our students,” she said. “We’re looking forward to even bigger and better supply drives in the years to come.”

The supplies will be given out at teachers’ discretion to students, Shiver said. Volunteering to help out with the drive were, from left, Dottye Thornburg, Shiver, School Board Member George Thompson and Mike Thornburg. Also helping out with the drive were School Board Chair Jimmy Gander, Rex and Charles Pennycuff, Joe Gander, Scott Shiver and Dennis Riner.
