Last week, Apalachicola had a pair of exotic visitors on a mission to help the environment. Eric Darsonval and his wife Chanita spent several days cruising the watershed in their light sport amphibian aircraft, “Phibee” a bright green open topped two-seater.

Darsonval was born in Algeria , raised in France and immigrated to the US where he recently retired after many years working as an airborne firefighter. His new job is to raise awareness about plastic pollution in the environment. He plans to travel coastal areas and river deltas and offer people the opportunity to view their landscape from the air and see for themselves the amount of trash littering our waterways. Darsonval said he was at the beginning of his crusade and stopped off here on his way to South Florida .
