Taylor Tyson named Georgia Southern ‘1906 Scholar'

Taylor Tyson has been named a “1906 Scholar” by Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro, Ga.

Taylor is the son of Nate and Beth Lanier Tyson, of Loganville, Ga.

Grandparents are Shirley N. Taylor, of Eastpoint, and J. Don Lanier, of Mexico Beach, and Alton and Serenah Tyson, of Brooks, Ga.

As a 1906 Scholar, Taylor will be entitled to a full tuition and housing scholarship with the University Honors Program. He was awarded the scholarship based on his record of achievement, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to serving the needs of others within his community.

He will begin attending Georgia Southern the fall 2011 semester and plans to major in writing and linguistics.

On May 22, Taylor graduated from Loganville Christian Academy as salutatorian of his graduating class. He was recently named Loganville Christian’s Star Student for 2010-11. His school activities include membership in the National Honor Society, president of the Class of 2011, captain of the Marching Lions and 2010 Homecoming King. He also plays drums with the praise band at Loganville First UMC Church.
