Aarti Patel Graduates from FSU Med School
Anil and Mira Patel would like to announce the graduation of their daughter, Aarti Patel, from the Florida State University College of Medicine at commencement exercises held Saturday morning, May 17 at the Ruby Diamond Auditorium on the Tallahassee campus.
Dr. Alma Littles, senior associate dean of the College of Medicine, delivered the commencement address to the 58 members of the Class of 2008, the fourth graduating class from the new medical school.
Aarti graduated from Apalachicola High School in 2000, and in 2004 earned a bachelor's of science in neuroscience from the University of Miami.
Two-thirds of the medical school's new graduates are entering residency programs in primary care specialties, including family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine and obstetrics/gynecology.
Aarti will begin her training in internal medicine at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
The 58 percent of students remaining in Florida from FSU this year represents the largest percentage of any graduating class at the College of Medicine to secure residency positions in the state.
"This is great news for the state of Florida with an extraordinarily high number - 58 percent - of our students able to remain here at a time when there simply aren't enough residency positions in the state to go around,'' said Dr. J. Ocie Harris, dean of the College of Medicine.
The Patel family offers its heartfelt thank you to all in the Franklin County community that contributed to Aarti's growth and education!
