The Forgotten Coast Fitness and Wellness Center (FCFWC) will open its doors on Monday, April 21.

The center, located in the old Apalachicola High School on Fourteenth Street will now be open to members from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. According to a press release, about 20 volunteers moved 10,000 pounds of weight setting up the fitness center, over the last week.

FCFWC is now seeking volunteers to greet current and new members, collect membership agreements and give tours.

The new fitness center is the result of months of work, following the sale of the building that once housed the Apalachicola Fitness Center , a for profit gym. The new center is a registered not for profit.

Kara Landiss, who has been a part of the project to build the new center from its inception, said the group has over 80 members and has collected the equivalent of dues for 51 one-year memberships.

Organizer Kate Aguiar said, “It is less than we need to break even the first year but enough to make a tiny leap of faith and to move ahead.”
